The checks that happen out of signal are kept, not lost
A Tool Control check, a radiation source check-out or return, a JSA and a toolbox talk are all written on the phone whether or not there is a bar of signal, stamped with the time they were really done rather than the time they reach us, and sent when the signal comes back. Each screen needs to have been opened in range once, so the phone knows the company and the crew; after that it works out of signal. Everything else needs a connection to save, and says so plainly rather than pretending.
The checks owed on the equipment in front of you
A technician sees the Tool Control checks due on the equipment they are standing at, enters the reading, and an out-of-tolerance result raises the same event — and names the same work at risk — as it would from the office.
The source log at the vault
For a radiographer, the company's source log is on the phone: a camera is checked out where that actually happens and marked back in the same way, instead of being written on a hand and typed up later.
Time against the job, as it is worked
Log hours against assigned jobs or clock in and out of them, including marking hours as on-the-job training, with a details page per job carrying the site, the contact, the crew, the equipment, the milestones and the files shared with the crew. Clocking in asks the phone where it is, and the office sees how far that was from the job's site — read once, at the tap, never in the background. A technician who refuses the permission still clocks in; the distance is simply blank, and it has never blocked anybody.
The inspection report, written on site
A technician crewed on a job, certified in the method, writes the field report on the phone with photos included. It is reviewed on the web, so the report is made where the inspection was and approved where the approval belongs.
Their own record, in their own hand
Certifications and due dates, compliance items and documents, trainings and dose history, assigned certification tests and earned certificates, and a My HR screen for signing paperwork, requesting time off and keeping an emergency contact current.
What the consultant does from the field
Boards and cards, jobs and the project overview, companies, contacts and deals, opening a new job before leaving the site, photographing evidence straight onto a QMS finding or NCR, and uploading a document from the camera.
The same sign-in, the same rules
Email and password followed by the second step the login owes — an authenticator code, or one emailed at sign-in — plus Continue with Google on phones that have Play Services, or a passkey on Android 9 and later. The one gap: an account whose only second factor is a passkey has to add an authenticator app on the website before the app will let it in. Client portal logins can sign in too and see their own company's records, and push notifications carry the same items as the bell on the web — the ones with a screen in the app open it, and the rest are a nudge to go and look on the website.

The same login they already have, with the same second step. What they can see and change is decided by the same rules as the website — the phone is not a side door.

Checks at the equipment, the source at the vault, hours against the job, the report on site. What was made out of signal sends itself when the signal returns.
Android today, and installed from a link
There is no iPhone build yet, and the app is installed from a build we send you rather than from an app store. Certification test sittings open in the browser, and so do documents, job files and card attachments — the browser asks you to sign in once of its own. Writing a field report is the technician's screen — a consultant can read a submitted one on the phone, but approving it is web work, as is anything that needs a second pair of eyes. Consultants can run the full web app on a phone, and on a computer Chrome and Edge offer "Install app", which gives TRACE its own window; that is the same website in its own frame, not a separate download.
